Where has the time gone?
They say that your perception of time speeds up as you grow up. When you're young things feel like they take a long time. Between moments of joy the enduring boredom of everyday life for my kids has been replaced with screen time.
For me, I wish I had more time to myself to do what I want but the role of a Father comes with some sacrifices. There is always more clothes to wash, more food to prepare, baths, garden and work. All of it is the whirlwind of things to do.
Where has all the time gone? What can we do? The simple answer is give up. The better answer is divide and conquer. Get the kids to help - plus you get to spend some time together.
It kind of sucks looking at projects you want to do or books you want to read but having no leisure time for them.
I'm finding myself lost in the oubliette of Fatherhood. They talk about the loneliness epidemic and I tell you what, I feel it. However, the more I realise that it's important to remember that communication is a two way street and that it takes me some time to step back and reach out to someone. As well as you need to realise that we are never truly alone.
Maybe it's just the winter blues leaving my system but I'm starting to feel better about the future. It's never too late to change. Time to make the most of what we have and not getting to caught up in the material side of life.
