Fire Drill

With the dangers of fire season and notifications sent through the Emergency Apps, we made the decision to implement our fire plan and leave our house. We gathered some essential items and some not-so-essential items together in the morning and we left in the afternoon. We went to the kid's Grandmothers place and monitored the situation.

I knew it was probably not going to be an issue. The fires are many towns away and it was unlikely to get that close. However, with the risk is that trees could fall on roads or other blockages could cause us to have limited exits. We felt safer being away from all the trees.

What did we learn? We probably took way too long to get ready. We have a lot of stuff that seems important but really isn't and it is replaceable. There were things we left behind that was irreplaceable but we simply couldn't take everything with us. We learnt that the feeling of being safe and together was the most important thing.

 Hopefully we never have to go through that again but if we do, we will be prepared.
