Guilty Pleasures

I have a confession - I'm slightly addicted to Virtual Home Lottery Tours. These are lotteries that sell the idea that you could win a house when you buy tickets for a lottery. The money for the lottery usually goes to a good cause.

I'm into 360 photography and I like the virtual tours allow you go explore the houses. Often you see features you like pools, second ovens, walk in wardrobes, solar panels and ensuites. Other times you see things you don't like - three media areas (who need that many?), the house takes up most of the land or unusual locations.

Doing the tour makes you imagine living there. We live in Melbourne and most of these houses are in Queensland. You imagine warmer weather but there are other factors to consider - does the water taste good from the tap? What are the utility rates costs? What are the insurance and council rates? Will there be job opportunities there? Is it worth moving away from family and community?

The biggest appeal for these houses is that no longer have debt. I think that is the key and appeal to these houses - being debt free. I don't want to be rich, but I would rather my money work towards going forward rather than being dragged down.

So, at this point, all we can do is dream. Anyone reading this that would like to pay off my mortgage - reach out and let me know.
